It was a bit cloudy when we left Demopolis Friday morning but not miserable. It was sad to leave our friends behind but we know we’ll meet up with them again soon.

Our first stop was the Demopolis Lock at mm 213.4 that lowered us another 40′.

One of the coolest things we’ve seen in the locks is the birds. They sit at the top of the lock on lights, rails, or posts and wait for the lock doors to close and the water to start lowering. As the water goes down, fish get stuck on the ledges and the birds swoop down and gobble them up! Pretty easy fishing…smart birds!
Once through the lock we saw these beautiful waterfalls!

And we got to see more of the spectacular chalk cliffs!

The most spectacular sight of the day was this little guy wandering along the shoreline. The bank was very steep where he was and we thought he might have gotten down and couldn’t find his way back up. He didn’t seem too distressed about it though.

We traveled about 52 miles today and just pulled out of the channel and dropped our anchor…yet another beautiful sunset!

We are having such a wonderful adventure. The sights we are seeing are certainly awe-inspiring and it is amazing to be immersed in nature. We are also enjoying just being together and feel truly blessed that we are able to make this trip together!
We are getting really excited about seeing the Gulf…won’t be long now!
