Day 3 – Locks on the Arkansas and the Spider Web Marina

October 28, 2014

We made it under our first “through truss bridge” which is a train bridge that is raised for boats to pass under.  SO cool!

We didn’t make it to the Mississippi River last night but we are cruising along nicely today.  Being delayed because the locks on the Arkansas River only let pleasure-craft through from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the week.  We are going about 12 mph running around 1200 rpm’s.  Not a lot of traffic either…just a nice leisurely boat ride.  Still a long way to go though!

We are having the time of our lives and learning SO much!! There are a lot of beautiful and interesting sights…there’s just no way to take pictures of everything!

We spent the night at what are referring to as the “Spider Web” marina!  The people were nice but the marina docks were completely covered in spiderwebs…insert shiver!!

The highlight of this place is that we met our very first Loopers!!  Robyn and Lester Branch and their crew aboard Robyn’s Nest were awesome!!  Gave us lots of great advice and even went to the liquor store for us!  Can’t wait to get started on our Loop…we look forward to seeing them again!
